Friday somewhere near Sahagun and insane

Didn´t make our target today, flaked at an albergue/bar about 3km short in Ledigos! Doesn´t really matter as we are one day ahead, we might have a couple of slower days now. We´re still going through crumbling medieval towns with many buildings, bridges etc dating back to the 13th and 14th century. The country side is still dry and dusty but a little greener than the past few days as there are a few rivers and some irrigation; so some corn fields and trees along water courses. The real meseta that we passed was harsh, at miday the sun would be high in a shimmering blue sky and the only thing you could see moving were pilgrims and buzzards climbing the thermals in slow spirals (I´m sure they had their eyes on us)!
But it is still very tough mentally, many people that coped well with the hard physical stage in Navarra are struggling. Passed a few of the old crew today - Liverpool boy, Finnish Angel, Hungarian boys and a few others but they were holed up in a shady pub and we left them far behind.
This stage is really testing our faith.... no that´s not right, we didn´t have any to start with...testing our sanity (and just why are we doing this again?).
We are thinking of you Anabel - good luck.

  1. Hey Ruben and Ray,
I have been reading your adventures every day since Rays girls told me about your walk. Congratulations for making it this far. You make it sound easy although I am sure it is not. It must be a great feeling to discover just how strong you are both mentally and physically. Your determination is inspirational.
I look forward to reading your blogs every day. My best wishes go with you.
    Regards
    Ross

  2. Hi Guys,
I'm, sure you'll start to sniff the sea air some time soon ( but maybe my goegraphy's pretty off!)
Ray, Ruben tells me he managed to get a hat, but you didn't - no, he wasn't dobbing! - I'm become obsessed with whether you have hats, in all this sun, and heat and no shade, and crazy women and truculent inn-keepers and waiters. Remember the old knotted hanky - always made a good head-covering for concreters as I remember!
    - well that's as inspiring as I can get at 7 in the morning. (Ruben wasn't inspired by my quotes from the guidebooks about the interesting arabic-influenced churches you can spot in the area you're walking. So - you're a bit over all the churches?)

take care, enjoy. (You're there, and we're not!)
    love Kerry

  5. Hi guys,
sounds like it's hard going at the moment.
I'm getting these images of Leone western landscapes with all the trimmings(the unbearable heat, cantinas, crazy mexican/spaniards, ect).Oh the stories you'll have to tell.Keep it up, it's only mental and physical.I'm starting to think my walking to the tram stop isn't going to cut it as a training regime.
Looking forward to the next installment,
    Jason.
