Greetings from Mansilla de los Mullas!

Spent a nice evening just relaxing in ElBurgo. Met a couple of lovely American kids (New Mexico), Stephanie and Steve, both threw in their jobs to see Europe and have pretty much started with the camino, then on to Barcelona to look for work so they can go on. Real free spirits!

We started before daylight again this morning with the lights of Leon in the distance beckoning us on. It was still and cool enough for me to wear my woolen vest. As the darkness receded we became aware of the Montes de Leon to the east, stretching westward into the skyline, the peaks were a grey blue and as the sun came up they washed the Montes with a purple tinge. When the sun began to peek over the range the sky was ablaze with pinks, oranges and reds! (if only the digital camera could capture the moment!). We completed another easy 20km into Mansilla de los Mullas where we checked into the albergue, had showers did our chores and are relaxing.

Mansilla dates back to 70BCE when it was a major trading town on the Via Trajena. The old Roman wall is still visible in places. Tommorrow morning we pass through Leon (from legio - ie Roman Legion, it was where the Roman legions protecting the iron and gold mines of Astorga were stationed). The Romans were kicked out by the Visigoths, who were in turn kicked out by the Arabs. Eventually Spain regained these areas (more on this later). My money is running out so will sign off for now. Greetings to those sending messages (Jason, Ross, Kerry). And yes we are living in the moment, on the camino there is no other way!
